John Widgren plays pedal steel
guitar, Dobro, and acoustic guitar. He is currently a very active session
musician, involved in numerous and diverse, record, theatrical, and commercial,
recording and live performance projects.
"I've been a guitar player and lover of music, as far back as I can
remember. I was captivated by the sound of the steel guitar from the
moment I first heard it."
"I started playing Steel while in Art School in Oklahoma, and really have
never stopped. Playing Clubs in Oklahoma and Texas was a fantastic
immersion into all kinds of music. Exposure to the rich heritage of
Country, and Western Swing music, contact with true legends of the genre, and
generous mentoring of great Artists and Musicians, made for a time of learning
that was gratifying and mind opening."
"I was a staff musician at Disney World for a while, which was good
training for what followed; years of playing on the road with Nashville
recording artists. I worked with Victoria Shaw, Noel Haggard, Gregg
Holland, and Archer/Park as a full time band member. I have played with
many other great artists, as a sideman. The two seasons with Archer/Park,
were among the most rewarding and fun that I ever had."
"I really like the diverse nature of projects and opportunities that come
from living in the NY area, and I feel lucky to be able to make a living by
doing what I love."
